Educating and informing

We deliver education sessions – both face-to-face and online – to help our customers understand their obligations.

Over the past year, we have substantially increased the number of education services we offer our customers, their representatives and peak bodies, as we continue to grow our education program following the disruption of the pandemic.

In 2023–24, we:

  • delivered 48 in-person seminars
  • hosted 70 online webinars
  • welcomed more than 5,000 attendees to our education sessions overall.

In June, we travelled to 11 locations across Victoria to deliver seminars covering land tax, payroll tax, vacant residential land tax, commercial and industrial property tax and windfall gains tax – our first roadshow since COVID halted public events.

We also hosted forums covering:

  • land tax and vacant residential land tax for real estate agents
  • payroll tax implications for non-government schools, with assistance from Independent Schools Victoria and the Catholic Education Council of Victoria
  • payroll tax for a range of allied health peak bodies
  • duty and land tax for Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce members
  • state taxes for CPA Australia and Law Institute of Victoria discussion groups.

Anticipating the large number of new land tax customers interacting with us, we also developed a series of educational videos about land tax. These videos are designed to give customers clarity and confidence by distilling complex information into an easy-to-understand format.

We also manage a series of decision tools on our website, which aim to ensure customers understand what their obligations are. Topics include buying and owning property, land tax, payroll tax, the commercial passenger vehicle service levy and the growth areas infrastructure contribution.
